Summary of expert reviews

Ollie is a fresh food dog food subscription service aiming to make your dog healthier and more energetic. They personalize the meals based on your dog’s breed, size, and other factors, and then send a combination consisting of one of four meat bases: beef, lamb, chicken and/or turkey.

The whole process was well-praised across the board, “The use of a questionnaire takes a lot of the hassle and stress out of switching to a new type of food for your dog,” said ConsumerVoice.org

So why fresh? “Most commercial dog foods are being cooked at extreme temperatures which ends up destroying the nutrient content of the ingredients (especially the raw ones),” states DogFood.Guide. In addition to maintaining the nutrients, all recipes are “are created by a board-certified veterinary nutritionist to meet AAFCO standards for all life stages, and meals are cooked in USDA-certified kitchens in New York.” notes Daniel Caughill of The Dog Tale

While the pricing varies by dog size and recommendation, Meg Marrs of K9 of Mine found Ollie to have a range of “…roughly anywhere from approximately $3.50 per day to feed a 10 lb dog, and up to $11 per day for an 80 lb dog.” This puts Ollie at a competitive level to the few other fresh delivery services out there.

The only caution was that if your dog has been on dry kibble previously, “It can take up to a total of two weeks before your pets stomach adjusts and re-learns how to properly break down fresh food as opposed to things like processed kibble,” notes ConsumerVoice.org. An easy way to do this is by mixing the fresh with the kibble for a week or two.

Overall Ollie was commended for it’s health-conscious fresh meals across the board, and as long as you are willing to pay a bit of a premium to dry kibble, the price is within the competitive range amongst other fresh dog food companies.
